The History of Nids des Pyrénées

We fell in love with the mountains and the Louron Valley in 2020. We came in the winter to ski, in the summer to hike, canyon, raft and explore and by the autumn we were on the hunt for land to build the perfect mountain retreat.

Nids des Pyrénées started as an architect’s drawing in 2022, and the first cottage will open for Easter 2026. Our family of four has built this ourselves, taking it from paper to reality in an incredible journey with many new skills acquired.

This is our happy space, our escape from the daily routine and we invite you to share it. We hope you will enjoy the mountains and valley as much as we do.

Building from the ground up

in the Louron Valley

Our original idea for a kit house was side lined by the war in the Ukraine, so we set about building from scratch, adhering to the guidelines of Historic France to ensure our wooden frame, ultra-insulated building would blend perfectly into this historic village on the edge of the forest.

From the early days sitting on the balcony, taking in the view and watching the red kites circle overhead, we felt at one with nature. And so when we came to name it, we felt Nests of the Pyrenees, aligned perfectly with the way the building inhabits the space and how you feel inside and out – cosy, safe and with an incredible view.

Whether you are here for an active week in the outdoors, or are coming to relax and reflect, we hope you will feel ‘nested’ and at home.

Like us, you are sure to be revitalised by the fresh mountain air, and we hope you will come back in different seasons to experience the rhythm of nature in this incredible place.
